Advocacy

hand pileADVOCATE/ n. A person who, with explicit authority, fights for a cause on behalf of an individual or community.

Five Ways to Advocate for the Homeless

1. Educate yourself. Learn how our own neighbors become homeless.

2. Talk with others in your neighborhood, community group, church or business about what you can do to offer your support for those who are in need.

3. Consider making a meal, organizing a collection drive or challenging coworkers to raise funds.  s-HOMELESS-large

4. Engage your elected officials. Most funding for homeless programs come from community and federal “block grants.” Learn about this process.

5. Encourage advocacy so that others become involved.
